Corporate Presence in Detroit
There are a number of Corporations with a presence in Detroit. However, there is a remarkable lack of Megacorps in the city, as the city is the home of Ares
| Ares Macrotechnology
By far the largest corporate presence, and primary employer, in the city is Ares. The other megacorps are virtually absent in the bastion of Ares power.
The only other megacorp with any real presence in Detroit, NeoNET does in Detroit what it does best: the Matrix. They avoid most of their interests in the city, as most conflict with the interests of Ares, and fighting Ares in Detroit is a loosing proposition.
| Cross Global Development
One of the main subsidiaries of Cross Applied technologies, CGD is a major opponent of Ares, mostly due to the long-standing feud between the Knight family and the Aurelius family. Despite this, Cross has maintained its place as an ‘A’ rated corporation, and is inching its way back towards ‘AAA’ status.
An up-and-comer in the cybertech industry, Macross has recently gained ‘A’ status amongst the corporate hierarchy after only 10 years in business. They specialize in cybertech for various metahumans, most notably trolls and dwarves.
|Twin Cities Trans-national
Based in Windsor, this shipping and transportation company was founded well before the Awakening and the founding of the UCAS. It continues to be owned and run by the same five families that founded the company, and has resisted all the efforts of Ares to take it over. It even manages to maintain a steady growth, and many consider that it may reach AA status in the next decade.
A mid-sized private transnational corporation, it has not attracted much in the way of public notice. Formed when the private company Weyland Industries (based in the United Kingdom) bought out virtually all the stock of the publicly traded Yutani Corporation (based in the Japanese Imperial State).
| Atlantean Foundation
The Atlantean Foundation (AF) was created in 2012 by Sheila Blatavska in Atlanta, CAS. Atlanta remains the headquarters of the AF. The principal purpose of the AF is to regain the lost knowledge of old Atlantis. It leads many expeditions for this lost knowledge, and also finds and supports similar projects.
| Center for Disease Control, Inc.
The private firm that used to be the US government’s main medical research organization has one of its main branches in Detroit. Though it is involved in all aspects of medical research and development, it specializes in disease control and vaccine research. A small branch of the main organization has begun to offer services similar to DocWagon, but are no-where as well known.
A newly-formed conglomerate of several small to mid-size agricultural companies, GreeneTech is struggling to align the interests of several formerly-competing companies while simultaneously fighting off Ares. The only thing holding the company together is a long-standing reputation of several of the partner companies providing high-quality food, including vegetables and real meat. The company has extensive farming outside the city, and occasionally hires shadowrunners to deal with encroachments from the slums or sabotage nearby Ares agricultural interests.
| Massive Dynamic
This company, which is rising quickly through the ranks of corporations, concerns itself primarily with magic and fringe science. It shelters in Detroit to avoid the other megacorps involved in these areas, and stays away from the traditional areas of Ares interests.
| PeopleMover Inc
Despite what many people think, the company responsible for the development and construction of the People Mover mass transit system in Detroit is not actually an Ares subsidiary. It is an independent company, though it has an excellent working relationship with Ares, and has been hired by the megacorp to develop mass-transit systems in several cities worldwide.
| Consumer Products International
Despite its lofty name, CPI is a purely lovcal company to Detroit. It is the parent company of Detroit’s version of Stuffer Shack, Capi’s, CPI is a purely local corporation, and employs thousands of badly paid, unmotivated lower-class Detroit citizens in its hundreds of corner-stores throughout the city. It is another of the companies sheltering under the local Ares presence to survive against its competitors, mainly Aztechnology’s Stuffer Shack.
|Garrison Security Corporation
Specializing in residential security, Garrison finds itself butting heads with Knight Errant on a regular basis, but as a regular customer of Ares for small arms, the company has not been crushed by the megacorp.
| Geoponics Corporation
Geoponics is a research and development corporation that focuses on Hydroponics and indoor and underground agriculture, primarily for the world’s archology’s. Their largest research division is in chemical nutrients and growth medium. Recent rumors have them contemplating a merger with GreeneTech.
| Gudgeon Enterprises
Gudgeon specializes in the design and manufacture of underwater excavation equipment: Machinery, explosives, lasers and torches. A former division of Saeder-Krupp, it was cut from the fold after too much conflict with Ares in Detroit. Since being cut from SK, Ares has stopped their harassment and the company has returned to profitability.
