Having wrapped up the business with Lucy Five, the team was looking forward to a little rest, apart from Hiraku, who had his training session with Betty Karnes. The session went well, though it was very strenuous, as she put him through the paces to see his current skill levels.
As he gathered his things after the session, Betty asked him about the woman that had been with him at the gym; Dwayne Fischer was asking about her. Hiraku passed along one of Kabuki’s disposable numbers.
As he did so, he found a message waiting from Ken Tailor. He had been contacted by Asako Yamaguchi to pass along an invitation to the team to meet for lunch the next day at Giovanni’s , one of Detroit’s most upscale restaurants.
On the assumption that the meeting would likely be a trap, the team obtained some upscale clothing, armored as available. In addition, Hiraku scouted the area astrally to familiarize himself with the location.
Unfortunately, his first attempt had to be aborted as he drifted too close to Ares Plaza, which was located just across the street from the restaurant, and ran in to one of the patrolling spirits.
More careful on his second attempt, he found the restaurant to have quite plentiful greenery, but did not find anything unusual.
Arriving at the restaurant 15 minutes ahead of time, they found Asako, her brother Tomo and his bodyguard Yui already at their table, eating some food. They had reserved one of the small semi-private alcoves on the second floor of the restaurant, which was somewhat occupied by what appeared to be a meeting of several Ares middle-managers, and their escorts/bodyguards occupying another 2 of the alcoves.
As they arrived, Hiraku quickly used his mage sight to perceive their hosts and check for the presence of any spirits. He did not see any, and did not spot any unusual auras radiating from the trio, though Asako did register as a powerful wizard, and Yui was sporting a significant amount of alphaware implants throughout his body. Tomo did not appear to have any magic or cyberware.
Tomo invited the team to order food, and made small talk as they waited for their meals to arrive. The team took the opportunity to order some truly delicious food; the restaurants reputation was truly deserved.
Eventually Tomo made his way to the reason for the meeting; he offered the team 250,000¥ and ‘positions worthy of their abilities’ in his new Yakuza organization for them to kill Kiro Hachiyama the existing Oyabun of the Detroit Yakuza.
The team considered their options briefly as they finished their meal, but in the end courteously declined his offer. Tomo seemed to be genuinely disappointed at ‘the waste’, but maintained his courteous manner.
Again worried of potential ambush the party exited the restaurant cautiously, but no attack appeared. They in turn contemplated attempting to ambush Tomo and his associates, but decided against it at that time.
Making their way back to the clubhouse, Kabuki, through her contact Hino Bento, arranged for a meeting with Kiro Hachiyama, at which the team informed him of the meeting with Tomo. He did not seem surprised, and in fact showed the team video footage of the meeting that he had been sent anonymously. From the angle of the footage, the team guessed that it was taken by Yui Hoshino, Tomo’s bodyguard.
Kiro, possibly wondering if Tomo had contacted other Yakuza with similar offers, has decided that Tomo and his ‘interlopers’ need to be dealt with immediately. He has raised the reward for capturing Tomo to $100,000, and for the death of Asako to $60,000.
